Rabi Al Awwal 2025
The new Islamic year starts from the month of Muharram (محرم) which has some religious obligations and is often considered month of sorrow for many Muslims specifically the shias, but in general, the majority of Muslims avoid any joyful events such as marriages, birthdays or engagements during the months of Muharram and Safar (صفر), specifically up to 20th Safar, which is the date of Arabain (چہلم امام حسین), The date of Chehlum (Completion of forty days after one’s death or martyrdom) of Imam Hussain, a renowned figure in Islam, prominent member of family of Holy Prophet (PBUH), his loving grandson. However, the third month of Islamic year or calendar is Rabi’ al Awwal or Rabi’ ul Awwal (ربیع الاول). This month has so much significance in Islam as it is the birth month of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) (حضرت محمد ﷺ), who was later on blessed, with Quran, the Holy Book of Muslims and everyone as it is also known as the ultimate book of guidance for humanity. The event or day of the birth of Prophet is also known as Eid Milad un Nabi in Sub Continent. This is why this month is celebrated globally among Muslims with full zeal and zest. Muhammad (PBUH) was born on 12 Rabi’ al-awwal, in 570 CE, in the year also known as Ām al-Fīl (The Year of the Elephant), when Abraha’s army (with elephants) attempted to attack the Kaaba but was miraculously destroyed by the ultimate power of Allah. Fil is Arabic translation of Elephant. As mentioned before, this month is celebrated in Islamic world due to various reasons which we will discuss later on, but in general, this month brings happiness to whole Muslims world as indeed, this month has given us the biggest blessing ever, Prophet (SAWW). We will also discuss the important tentative dates for this month in 2025, such as first Rabi’ al Awwal 2025, 9th, 12th or 17th so people can plan their events accordingly.
First Rabi’ al Awwal 2025
As Arba’in 2025 was on 15 August, 2025 in Pakistan, and Safar is likely to be of 29 days this year, 1st Rabial awwal will be on 24 or 25 August (Depends on sightseeing of Moon) in different regions globally. Beginning of this month is considered a blessing and brings an automatic sense of happiness among the enthusiastic people following Islam. Muslims all over the world mostly starts to decorate streets or their homes, light them up or use Lamps or beacons. This decoration looks lovely and make people feel good and brings harmony in society.
9 Rabi- al awwal 2025 / 9 ربیع الاول
9th of this month hold significance for Shia Muslims globally as they end their days of sorrow for the tragedy of Karbala and martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS). This year, 9th of this month is expected on 1st or 2nd of September 2025. After this day, Shia get back to their usual life routine and plan their events like marriages or engagements and birthdays etc.
12 Rabi’ al Awwal 2025 / 12ربیع الاول
This day or event also known as Eid Milad un Nabi or the Birthday of Hazrat Muhammad is likely to be on 4-5 September 2025 this year, it depends on the sightseeing of moon in the your respective region. This is a very blessed day as it marks the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who has been called the Mohsin-e-Insaniyat, ( Blessing for the whole Mankind) (Urdu: محسنِ انسانیت). People hold different events, religious gathering (Both Male and Females) and rallies and is celebrated like Eids. This event holds the same importance for Muslims as Christmas holds for Christians, except for the fact that they believe the Jesus is (May God forgive me) son of God while Muslims believe that he was born with a miracle by the God. However, the Muslims are ordered to respect all Prophets regardless of what their followers believe.
